Fantastic line up of inspiring speakers at What Next? 2019

Thursday 11th April 2019
Join the debate about what lies ahead for Retirement Communities

If you want to discover the innovative ways people are tackling the challenges of an increasing older population around the world then come along to What Next? 2019.

Our conference takes place on Wednesday, July 10 with the optional Knowledge Exchange Day on Thursday, July 11 at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London, and sees the largest gathering of Retirement Community operators in the UK.

One of our inspiring key speakers this year is Janice Chia, an expert on ageing in Asia-Pacific, with deep knowledge of some of the high-density retirement settlements in China and beyond.

Janice, who founded Ageing Asia Alliance, an ageing market consultancy social enterprise, as well as ASPIRE55 Singapore, Asia’s first virtual retirement village, will be talking about the challenges and opportunities of ageing in Asia-Pacific.

She joins a fantastic line up including Sir Muir Gray, renowned expert on healthcare systems and author of Sod 70!

He will share with us the latest research on lifespans versus healthspans as well as his practical and uplifting approach to living longer and better and reduce the years of frailty.

Our other speakers include Avnish Goyal, Chairman of Hallmark Care Homes; Nick Sanderson, Chief Executive of Audley Group and Chair of ARCO; Nigel Sibley, Chief Executive, LifeCare Residences; Katherine Rose, Group Director of Marketing, Audley Group, as well as our very own Shandi Petersen, Deputy Director, ARCO and Michael Voges, Executive Director, ARCO.

Although many of our speakers will be talking about how Retirement Communities offer great opportunities for healthy ageing and wellbeing, we will also be exploring our conference headline Risk, Reward, Responsibility and examining the increasingly strong trend towards fixed service charges, the transfer of risk to the operator, and their business models.

The Government's recent announcement on event fees underlines the importance of the deferred fee model when it comes to income generation. However, we will also look at the responsibilities operators are entering into, how we can deliver a high-quality product for customers and achieve the Retirement Community sector’s long-term development goals. In addition, we will also focus on how many housing associations are turning their attention to the growing ‘middle market’ and we’ll be looking at the key considerations.

The main conference concludes with the ARCO 'Sector Social', the largest drinks and networking event in the housing with care sector.

The optional Knowledge Exchange Day takes place the following day and provides the opportunity for deeper exploration of the key topics facing the retirement community sector. Attendees can choose four workshops from a range of interactive options.

Please note tickets for Day 2 have previously sold out approximately a month in advance because of limited capacity and we expect this year to be substantially oversubscribed. They will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
