The Older People’s Housing Crisis: Lessons from the Labour Party in New Zealand
Labour housing group are pleased to announce an upcoming event in their ‘In Conversation With…’ series, with John Collyns.
As Executive Director of New Zealand’s Retirement Villages Association, John Collyns has spearheaded the success of the housing-with-care sector in the country, which is has doubled in size since 2012 and is set to double again in the next 20 years. This is in large part due to the affordability of the sector, from building at scale and the usage of deferred management fees.
John is a global leader in housing-with-care and has spoken at many international conferences.
Against the backdrop of the independent Older People’s Housing Task Force, whose report is yet to be published following the election, John will be talking about New Zealand’s experience, the integration of care and housing policy and the role of the 2003 Retirement Villages Act – which was introduced by a Labour Government in New Zealand.
John’s talk provides a great opportunity to learn from the international community on how Labour Governments abroad have spearheaded housing-with-care.
