Join the second SHHA In-Depth webinar to learn more about the IRC concept and how it can be implemented in other European markets

The Integrated Retirement Community (IRC) has emerged as a comprehensive approach to supporting people in later life, bringing together a range of specialist accommodation and facilities. Coined by the Associated Retirement Community Operators (ARCO), the term aims to bring clarity to the discussion of retirement living, replacing a confusing mix of vocabulary with a more inclusive language.

ARCO, the main advocate of the IRC model in the UK, emphasises the socio-economic value of this integrated approach. The term emerged from extensive research and engagement with older people, focusing on three key areas: Integrated Lifestyle, Integrated Care and Integration with the Wider Community. The aim is not only to streamline the discourse, but also to drive a paradigm shift in the design and construction of retirement communities, prioritising a sense of community and support throughout the ageing process.
